A web joker managed to by-pass Wayne’s security checks to take control of his tweets.

The intruder then linked to Wayne’s name two raunchy photos of Big Brother winner Helen, who he is said to have had a three-in-abed romp with four years ago.

The snaps were originally posted by a Manchester United fan and were captioned: “Could I have you as a present under my tree?”

One of the images had a quote from former vice girl Helen vowing: “I’d absolutely love to write a sex column for men.”

The offensive tweet appeared on the United and England striker’s profile, which has more than 10 million followers, late on Sunday night Stunned Helen, 27, replied to the message: “Erm, am I seeing things? What the actual hell?”

It sparked false speculation that Roo still has the hots for the Bolton beauty salon boss.

But yesterday it became clear that Wayne’s account had been hacked and an attempt made to embarrass him in the run-up to England’s game against Scotland tonight.

Helen was first linked to Rooney with another prostitute Jenny Thompson.

It was claimed that the three enjoyed a sex session in a Manchester hotel in 2010 while Roo’s wife Coleen, 28, was five months pregnant with the couple’s first child.

Rooney, 29, declined to comment last night. But a source close to the star said: “Wayne did not favourite the pictures. It was nothing to do with him.

"The matter has been reported to Twitter and taken down from the site.

"It looks certain that his account has been hacked. An investigation is under way.”

The message has since been deleted from Roo’s tweets.

The father-of-two celebrated his 100th cap for England in the 3-1 victory over Slovenia on Saturday. Afterwards Roo proudly uploaded a family photo with the message: “Thanks to my family for their support, brilliant day!"
