The former Barcelona president Josep Lluis Nunez has been admitted into jail alongside his son with both men due to complete the two year, two month sentence handed out for tax fraud.
Both men have been imprisoned in the Quatre Caminos prison in La Roca del Valles municipality in the province of Barcelona.
Also a constructor and property developer, the 81-year-old and his son, Josep Lluis Nunez i Navarro, have in doing so complied with the order of the Provincial Court of Barcelona, which at the start of this month gave the pair a period of ten days before they would be sent to jail after rejecting their latest appeals.
In the case of the former Barcelona president, the ninth section of the provincial court rejected the appeal to suspend internment while waiting for the government to decide whether it would grant a pardon, on the understanding that that had zero chance of being given and that the guilty party is not "a rehabilitated person" due to not having shown any regret.
The two years and two months sentence which Nunez is now beginning was given by the High Court for bribing tax inspectors so that they would turn a blind eye as they checked his accounts.
The Provincial Court initially imposed a sentence of six years which the High Court then reduced.
