Mikel Arteta has agreed to sign a one-year contract extension with Arsenal, Goal understands.
The Spanish midfielder, whose current deal expires next summer, will put pen to paper on an agreement than runs until 2016.
Goal has learned that under the terms of the deal the 32-year-old will be entitled to a further extension beyond next season if he makes a certain number of first-team appearances in 2015-16.
Arteta is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in the 3-3 draw against Anderlecht last Tuesday and which will keep him out for another fortnight.
It is the latest in a series of niggling injuries suffered by the player in the last two seasons but he remains a key figure in the Arsenal set-up.
Arteta, who signed from Everton in 2011, remains Arsene Wenger's first-choice midfield anchorman even though the manager is looking to strengthen that area of his team in January after making concerted attempts to reinforce it last summer.
Arsenal pursued a deal for Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho right up until deadline day and, as revealed by Goal last week, are now keeping close tabs on Germany midfielder Christoph Kramer.
