Sam Winnall's second-half goal gave Barnsley a 1-0 victory at Sheffield United to end their run of three games without a win.
United went close to scoring after only eight minutes when Craig Alcock's close-range header was scrambled off the line by goalkeeper Ross Turnbull.
Barnsley's Joe Dudgeon then sent over a low cross which was met by Winnall, but the striker was unable to get his shot on target, lifting the ball over the bar.
A quick attack from the home side saw James Wallace find a way through the centre, but his shot was saved by Turnbull.
Towards the end of the half, Winnall had a shot deflected wide and Luke Berry fired in a long-range effort which was comfortably saved by Mark Howard in the home goal.
After Devante Cole had a shot turned wide by Howard, Winnall scored the winner with a firm 56th-minute header from James Bailey's corner.
United substitute wasted a good chance to equalise, putting a free header off-target after meeting Jose Baxter's free-kick.
