Keylor Navas spied on by the Costa Rican police

Agents of Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Department (OIJ) and four prosecuting attorneys from its Public Office spied on personal aspects of Keylor Navas's life.

OIJ director Francisco Segura has revealed that 24 agents accessed a police information platform in order to look into the private life of the Costa Rica team goalkeeper and that of two of his sisters.

Use of this information platform occurred between July and August of this year across various OIJ offices.

"The agents only have the authority to access the platform when they are carrying out police investigations, making their actions at the very least serious infringements that could lead to the sentencing of suspensions upwards of 15 days", Segura said.

The police chief also stated that if the case develops into a full-blown criminal investigation, the agents involved could also end up losing their jobs.

Segura assured that the player had also been spied on by officers of other police agencies, such as the Police Intelligence and Drugs Units, who also had access to the platform.

The OIJ director wished to make it clear that there was no reason whatsoever why the OIJ would wish to investigate the goalkeeper and said that what had occurred "had no justification possible."

The Public Office meanwhile has said that last week a disciplinary investigation into four of its prosecutors had been initiated for the same reasons.
