Club Brugge 1 : 1 FC Kobenhavn - Spoils shared in late flurry

Last-gasp strikes from Daniel Amartey and Victor Vazquez added some late spice to Club Brugge's 1-1 draw against visitors Copenhagen.

A relatively open Group B clash had nevertheless appeared destined to end goalless until Amartey's superb strike put the Danish side ahead in the 89th minute.

Then, improbably given what had come before, the hosts levelled in stoppage-time through Vazquez's clinical finish, keeping the Belgians unbeaten with five points from three games.

The game got off to a slow start, enlivened in by a brief but intense flurry of activity around the Copenhagen goal.

Felipe Gedoz kicked things off by testing Stephan Andersen with a snap-shot on the edge of the penalty area, before a run of three corners kept the visitors locked down in their area.

Francisco Silva ended the pattern by letting fly from distance but his shot was charged down as the danger eventually cleared.

Copenhagen hit back when Pierre Bengtsson's free-kick reached Mikael Antonsson, but his header left Matthew Ryan with an easy save.

Bengtsson and Antonsson combined again on the half-hour, another free-kick providing the opportunity, but this time the latter fired wide.

Gedoz offered Andersen catching practice from the last decent chance of the half, with neither side good enough to break the deadlock.

Three minutes into the second period, Brugge earned a dangeroud free-kick when Gedoz was felled by Amartey.

Nicolas Castillo hit a peach of a shot from the dead ball only to see it rattle the frame of the goal.

That was as close as anybody came to finding the net until the dying moments.

When the moment came it was a fitting effort, Amartey unleashing an unstoppable 25-yarder after a half-cleared corner.

That looked certain to give Copenhagen a second win in the competition but Brugge had one last chance. When the ball fell for Vazquez he calmly threaded a shot past Andersen to salvage a point.
