Chievo dismiss head coach Eugenio Corini after Roma defeat
Eugenio Corini: Sacked by Chievo

Chievo have sacked head coach Eugenio Corini following Saturday's heavy defeat to Roma.

The Flying Donkeys find themselves just outside the Serie A relegation zone after going down 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

It was a fifth defeat of the new season for a team which boasts only four points from seven games.

A statement published on Chievo's official website confirmed Corini, who returned for a second spell in the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi dugout last November, had been relieved of his duties.

It read: "The club wholeheartedly thanks the coach for his hard work, professionalism and unwavering dedication and wishes him all the best for his future career.''

The former Palermo and Torino midfielder, now 44, was first handed the reins at Chievo in October 2012 and, after leaving Verona in May 2013, he returned four months later to replace Beppe Sannino.

Reports in Italy suggest former Catania boss Rolando Maran is the front runner to succeed Corini at the Bentegodi ahead of next week's home meeting with Genoa.
