Ronaldo: Portugal WILL be at Euro 2016

The forward, who was Seleccao's hero once again on Tuesday, is certain that Fernando Santos' men will qualify for the continental tournament despite a rocky start

Portugal matchwinner Cristiano Ronaldo is certain that his side will qualify for Euro 2016.

Fernando Santos' men looked set to drop points again on Tuesday, as the clock ticked down in their qualifier in Denmark, until the Real Madrid forward scored with a header in the final minute of second-half stoppage-time.

Ronaldo, captaining the team having missed the last international break when Portugal were beaten by Albania through injury, was adamant that their weaknesses in 2014 do not reflect on the overall talent he believes will see them reach Euro 2016.

"As I said before, I believe that Portugal will top the group, because our team is the best of the group," he told RTP after the 1-0 win in Copenhagen.

"We will show our quality on the pitch. I am confident that we will be in Euro 2016."

Portugal suffered a miserable summer, being dumped out of the World Cup group stage by Germany and USA.

They reached the semi-finals of Euro 2012, however, and Ronaldo will be hoping they can force their way to the top two of Group I to have a chance to do better in two years' time.

If they finish third, they are likely to be involved in a play-off to reach the 24-team tournament being held in France.
