Getafe vs Cordoba preview - Ferrer confident despite bad form

Cordoba may be propping up the Primera Division standings but boss Albert Ferrer insists they are capable of beating any team.

Los Califas are still searching for their first win since returning to the top flight after an absence of over 40 years, drawing three of their six games so far and losing the remaining three.

Yet Ferrer remains confident his side can secure victory against mid-table Getafe when they travel to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Friday night.

"Getafe are strong opponents who won last week (1-0 at home to Malaga)," former Chelsea player Ferrer told www.cordobacf.com.

"It's a team that has improved a lot because they have changed their style. And they also have great players.

"It is a stronger team than we saw earlier in the season, but the level we showed in our last match has given us confidence.

"I'm very happy and I'm optimistic. I think we can win any game."

Last time out Cordoba picked up a point from a goalless stalemate with Espanyol at the Estadio Nuevo Arcangel, which means they sill have not won a competitive match since beating Real Murcia 2-1 in the Segunda Division in June.

Goals have been a constant problem for the Andalusian side, with them only finding the net on three occasions so far this season, but they will be boosted by the return of midfielder Carlos Caballero, who has been out with a knee injury since February.

"He has been working well for a few days and most importantly he feels sensational and is therefore ready to play," Ferrer said.

"Carlos is capable of taking control at important moments of games.

"He's a player who is not afraid to ask questions. For me it is a joy that he is back for us."

For Getafe boss Cosmin Contra, Friday night's game is all about proving that his side have turned a corner.

Prior to their win over Malaga last week, the Azulones lost three games in a row and failed to score in all of those defeats.

They go into the game just three points above Cordoba, but Contra is keen to show that his side are better than their current position suggests.

"We have to leave tomorrow with the intention to win at Cordoba, leaving no doubt that we will be victorious. It is essential for us to add these points as we go into the international break," he told www.getafecf.com.

But the 38-year-old Romanian, who has an unchanged squad to choose from, is refusing to take anything for granted against newly-promoted Cordoba.

"They're a good team, and when you have so much need of points makes them more dangerous," he added.
