REAL MADRID boss Carlo Ancelotti was left fuming after the club sold Angel Di Maria to Manchester United, it has been claimed.

The Argentina international joined the Red Devils for a British transfer record £59.7million, and has shone in his first handful of appearances under Louis Van Gaal.

Di Maria had initially wanted to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu after playing a crucial role in last season's Champions League win, but the purchases of Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos and Monaco's James Rodriguez left him out in the cold.

Fans were upset after learning that Ancelotti had no room for the talented midfielder in his starting XI, but former France international and Paris St-Germain boss Luis Fernandez believes that the Italian wanted to keep Di Maria at the club.

PSG was understood to be Di Maria's preferred choice ahead of United, but the Ligue 1 champions were not willing to pay Real's asking price after being hit by Financial Fair Play restrictions.

Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, Fernandez claims that Ancelotti was desperate to keep Di Maria at Real whilst hinting that all is not well inside the walls of the La Liga club.

He said: "[Real Madrid] have started off making errors [this season] but now they're on autopilot. Some important players left and it showed.

"I would have loved to see [Di Maria] at the Parc des Princes. He is a sensational footballer, as he showed at the World Cup.

"Ancelotti was not happy at all that he left Madrid and even less so when another his key players [Xabi Alonso] left [for Bayern Munich] as well."
