Carlisle vs Tranmere Rovers preview - Late test for Sweeney

Posted Friday, September 26, 2014 by PA

Carlisle midfielder Antony Sweeney faces a late fitness test ahead of boss Keith Curle's first home game in charge against Tranmere.

Sweeney was replaced early in the second half during last week's defeat at Mansfield and will be assessed, but defender Sean O'Hanlon remains sidelined with a toe injury.

Left-back Matty Robson (knee) has returned to training but is some way off first-team action, while defender Courtney Meppen-Walter (knee) remains a long-term absentee.

The Cumbrians, without a league win this season following relegation, currently prop up the table.

Matthias Fanimo is edging closer to making his Tranmere debut and could feature in Cumbria.

The on-loan West Ham winger, who has so far been an unused substitute in three games, arrived at Prenton Park with a groin injury but improved his fitness by playing for the reserves on Monday.

Rovers still have a host of injuries in defence, though, with Matt Hill having undergone surgery on an Achilles problem this week which could put him out for six months.

Neither Liam Ridehalgh (ankle) or Danny Woodards (foot) are ready to return yet.
