Udinese clinched their first road triumph of the campaign on Thursday with Cyril Thereau scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win at Lazio.

The French striker scored in the 26th minute to silence the crowd at the Stadio Olimpico and give Udinese their third win in four Serie A games.

The Friuli outfit have climbed to third in the standings, three points adrift of league leaders Juventus and Roma.

The hosts had opportunities to pull level but lacked a finishing touch and suffered their third defeat of the campaign.

Udinese coach Andrea Stramaccioni rested veteran striker Antonio Di Natale and instead fielded Thereau alongside Luis Muriel and Panagiotis Kone in attack.

Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti returned from injury to make his first appearance of the season.

Udinese had the first chance in the second minute with Muriel's powerful free-kick but it was kept out by Marchetti.

At the other end, Felipe Anderson found space inside the Udinese area and hit a right-footed shot over the bar.

Udinese almost went in front midway through the first-half when Muriel took aim from close range but with Marchetti already beaten, Lazio defender Diego Novaretti made a goal-line clearance.

Not long after and the visitors went ahead.

Thereau pounced on Silvan Widmer's low cross and smashed the ball past a helpless Marchetti from seven yards.

Stramaccioni brought on Bruno Fernandes in the 28th minute after Muriel was stretchered off.

Lazio wasted a good chance to equalise before half-time but Antonio Candreva's dangerous cross failed to find a team-mate in the box.

Udinese's Kone could have made it 2-0 six minutes into the second half but after finding space in the box, he struck the ball off target.

On the hour mark, Candreva's free-kick lacked power and proved an easy save for Udinese goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis.

Lazio continued to press forward yet in the 67th minute, Miroslav Klose failed to tap in Candreva's perfect pass.

Candreva then drilled a 30-yard effort just over the bar for the hosts.

Lazio substitute Keita twice had shots on goal in the last 10 minutes that Karnezis saved as Udinese held on for three points.
