Hertha BSC Berlin vs Wolfsburg preview - Hertha boss demands victory

Hertha Berlin coach Jos Luhukay is demanding three points from his side against Wolfsburg on Wednesday evening.

After grabbing a somewhat fortunate point against Freiburg last Friday, the Dutchman now wants more to soothe his side's ailing self-confidence.

"We're lacking a success story," he said. "So we want to do all we can to get that."

Hertha have lost two and drawn two of their four games so far this season, but the way in which they snatched a point in Freiburg could be the catalyst they need.

"There's no question we were lucky, but hopefully that can give us a boost," Hertha's director of sport Michael Preetz told the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.

"The timing was good because we didn't play well in Freiburg and we know we've got to improve.

"We are expecting our first win of the season and that would relieve our team, and the only way we can get that is by fighting and forcing it to come."

That is precisely the way Wolfsburg put their early-season woes behind them with a 4-1 triumph over Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.

"That's given us a real taste for winning," their coach Dieter Hecking said.

"You can see how hungry we were for success."

With that result in mind, Hecking may stick with the same players rather than rotating for their third game in six days, including their Europa League opener at Everton last Thursday.

He cannot count on Christian Trasch or Maximilian Arnold, though, but he has almost all of the rest of his squad at his disposal.
