Werder Bremen 0 : 3 Schalke 04 - Schalke end winless run in style

Schalke picked up their first Bundesliga win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Werder Bremen to ease the pressure on coach Jens Keller.

Max Meyer, Roman Neustadter and Tranquillo Barnetta scored the goals, all in the second half, as the Royal Blues moved above their hosts and out of the bottom three.

A second defeat in a row, meanwhile, leaves the northern Germany side in danger of dropping to the bottom of the table if results go against them on Wednesday evening.

The game took a while to get warmed up with both sides' form hardly giving them much confidence, but they both could have taken the lead just before the break.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar set up Dennis Aogo for Schalke's first chance of the game, but he missed the target from close range.

A few minutes later, Bremen squandered their best chance of the game with Fin Bartels setting up Eljero Elia, who shot straight at goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann.

Schalke took the lead three minutes into the second half with route-one stuff, Fahrmann punting the ball forward and Huntelaar touching it down for Meyer to do the rest.

Raphael Wolf probably should have done better with Meyer's shot, however.

Schalke added a second with some more disorganised Bremen defending leaving Neustadter completely unmarked from Christian Fuchs' corner and he headed the ball into the top left-hand corner.

Christian Clemens could have made it three when he turned a shot wide of the far post before Barnetta showed him how it should be done.

The Swiss midfielder was put through on goal by Huntelaar and he rounded Wolf before stroking the ball in to seal Schalke's first win of the season.
