Fleetwood Town 0 : 0 Barnsley - Town and Tykes draw blank

Both teams hit the woodwork as Fleetwood and Barnsley played out a 0-0 draw at Highbury.

The home side dominated before the break but could not take any one of a dozen good chances.

Stephen Dobbie was at the heart of the attacking action for Fleetwood, releasing Gareth Evans on an early charge, but the midfielder's low shot was straight into the chest of Adam Davies.

The on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder caused big issues for Davies with a looping cross from the right, with Barnsley's keeper unable to cling on, but Jamie Proctor was unable to capitalise on the chaos.

Dobbie had chances of his own, firing wide after a neatly worked move with Steven Schumacher and sending a curling shot straight into the arms of Davies having found space for himself 18 yards out.

Barnsley were pegged back but did trouble Town on the break, Dale Jennings with their best chance before half-time, slamming Kane Hemming's cross goalwards only for Nathan Pond to slide in with a vital block.

Barnsley turned up the tempo after the break, with Devante Cole seeing a shot deflected over the bar and Jennings allowed space on the edge of the box only to crash his effort against the angle.

Cole then forced an athletic save from Chris Maxwell as Fleetwood were all of a sudden being subjected to a direct assault, the home side finding it hard to deal with the striker's energy in front of goal.

But it was a response the visitors simply could not keep up, with sub David Ball turning things back in Fleetwood's favour.

He could easily have turned home Proctor's cross to give the home side a late advantage, but was just unable to get a toe on the ball.

Josh Morris came closer still, rattling the woodwork but neither side were able to break the deadlock
