The France full back is expected to be out for two months after falling awkwardly in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the Emirates.

Debuchy was stretchered off in pain in the 81st minute and was given oxygen in the tunnel before being taken to hospital.

Initial assessments showed no fracture but a scan today is expected to confirm the £12m summer signing from Newcastle has ligament damage.Arsenal's Mathieu Debuchy faces lengthy lay-off giving Arsene Wenger a defensive headache

That leaves Arsenal with just five senior defenders to cover four positions, with Calum Chambers set to fill in at right back.

He will start there against Borussia Dortmund as Arsenal begin their Champions League campaign tomorrow.

Debuchy will also miss key Premier League games against Tottenham and Chelsea, as well as Champions League clashes with Galatasaray and Anderlecht.

Wenger said: "There is no fracture but it is a very big sprain. It did not look good at all. It's a bad one."
