Evian Thonon Gaillard 1 - 3 Marseille: Three and easy for Marseille

Andre-Pierre Gignac's first-minute goal sent Marseille on their way to a 3-1 win over Evian as Marcelo Bielsa's side registered their third consecutive Ligue 1 victory of the new campaign.

Gignac got Marseille off to a perfect start at the Parc des Sports by opening the scoring before the Evian players had a touch of the ball - 20 seconds in to be precise - Giannelli Imbula then notched a second a minute before half-time and Florian Thauvin struck a third shortly after the hour mark.

Clarck N'Sikulu headed in a consolation goal for Evian in time added on but Bielsa's side were good value for their win, which moves them up to third place, just a point behind league leaders Lille.

Evian, meanwhile, remain bottom with just one point form their opening five matches.

The game was hardly under way when Marseille took the lead - much to the displeasure of the majority of those assembled inside the stadium.

Rod Fanni's incisive pass found Gignac inside the penalty area and the France striker shot quickly to beat a shell-shocked Benjamin Leroy in the Evian goal at his near post.

Evian were nearly level in the 20th minute when Denmark winger Daniel Wass picked out Fabien Camus with an accurate cross from the right wing but his shot missed the target by inches as Marseille's lead remained intact.

Evian were then punished for their profligacy when Imbula doubled their lead just before the interval with a powerful 25-yard strike from the right which sailed past Leroy and into the net.

Thaivin made it 3-0 in the 62nd minute when he prodded home from close range after Dimitri Payet produced a trademark mesmerising run.

Evian really should have opened their account 10 minutes later but Nicki Bille Nielsen, having dispossessed Fanni, fired just over the crossbar.

They did get on the scoresheet in added time, however, when N'Sikulu headed home Kassim Abdallah's pinpoint cross from the left but it was no more than a consolation for Pascal Dupraz's side.
