Celta Vigo 2 : 2 Real Sociedad - Sociedad strike back for Celta draw

Real Sociedad pulled off an another extraordinary comeback to salvage a point from a 2-2 draw at Celta Vigo, despite trailing the Galicians by two goals with little more than 20 minutes remaining.

In their next league game after their thrilling 4-2 win over Real Madrid, Jagoba Arrasate's side gave themselves a mountain to climb at Balaidos, going down to a first half header from the in-form Fabian Orellana and then an unorthodox finish from Joaquin Larrivey at the start of the second period.

However, Imanol Agirretxe reduced the deficit in the 69th minute and a late onslaught from the Basques followed, with Jonny Castro diverting the ball into his own net in injury time to gift a point to the visitors.

Eduardo Berrizo's side are still unbeaten after three Primera Division games but will be kicking themselves after conceding two sloppy goals so late in the game, while La Real again demonstrated their ability to resurrect a seemingly lost cause.

The Basques made the stronger start to the game and could have taken an early lead through Xabi Prieto, but the midfielder was thwarted by Celta goalkeeper Sergio Alvarez.

The hosts slowly grew into the game, however, and got a breakthrough shortly before the half-hour mark. Michael Krohn-Dehli managed to get out onto the left wing unchallenged and sent a high cross towards the edge of the six-yard box, where Orellana was waiting to head past a hapless Enaut Zubikarai to score his third goal in as many games.

La Real wilted after Orellan's strike and were fortunate to go into the break only a goal down, but were dealt another blow moments after the re-start.

Gangly Argentine striker Larrivey slid in to meet a cross from Castro and struck the inside of the post, but the ball bounced back towards him and ricocheted off his body - and perhaps his arm - and over the goal line.

La Real were allowed a way back into the game thanks to some suspect goalkeeping from Alvarez, who failed to hold onto a 20-yard low shot from Chory Castro, and Agirretxe calmly lifted the ball over the outstretched goalkeeper's body to reduce the deficit.

The goal sprang La Real into action and the remaining 20 minutes were stressful times for Celta.

Castro was denied by Alvarez, Granero struck the outside of the far post from outside the box, and then the visitors won three corners in three minutes, but each set piece proved futile.

However, La Real would not give in. Substitute Jon Gaztanaga's distant shot whistled past the near post in the 90th minute and in injury time the visitors' persistence finally paid off.

Granero sent a looping ball towards the far post after an exchange with Chory Castro and his cross bounced off Jonny's thigh and into the net, giving a highly entertaining game the most dramatic of finishes.
