Weligton expects Malaga to bounce back

The Valencia club lost both of their opening league games to Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao respectively, conceding a total of five goals, but the defender believes that Jose Luis Mendilibar's side's poor start to the season means they will be even more determined to get points on the board against Malaga.

"It won't be easy for us, because they really need to pick up points," Weligton told reporters.

"We have to begin the game with maximum concentration and determination. Levante play a direct style of football with a lot of high pressing, we've been studying them this week and I hope what we've been working on pays off."

Venezuela full-back Roberto Rosales and Spain Under-21 midfielder Sergi Darder have both returned to training unscathed after international duty, but the latter is suspended from the game with Levante because of his red card in the 3-0 defeat at Valencia before the international break, and midfielder Duda is still serving his ban for being sent off on the opening day of the season against Athletic Bilbao.

However, left-back Vitorino Antunes has served his suspension for also getting sent off in the 1-0 win over Athletic and is expected to return to the side at the expense of Arthur Boka.

Levante have no players suspended but instead have to deal with a raft of injuries, with Nikos Karabelas, Juanfran, Jaime Gavilan and Issam El Adoua all ruled out, while David Navarro and Ivan Lopez are both doubts with muscular problems.

Under-fire coach Mendilibar insisted he has noticed improvements in training over the international break, and said maintaining a positive attitude was even more important than picking up points at Malaga.

He said: "We are training well but know we have to find a way to compete well, to get on with the task at hand and be bold.

"If we slip up it doesn't matter, the worst thing we can do is let our attitude drop. That's what we have to improve on."
