Ipswich vs Millwall preview - Ambrose in Ipswich frame

Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy has strengthened his squad ahead of Saturday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Millwall by bringing midfielder Darren Ambrose back to Portman Road on a short-term deal until January.

The 30-year-old will embark on a third spell with the Tractor Boys, having been at the club as a trainee before moving to Newcastle for B£1million back in 2003 and also joining on loan from Charlton between November 2008 and January 2009.

"I couldn't be happier," Ambrose told the club's official website. "It's a great club and I feel like I have unfinished business here. I have said before that I left too young and then when I came back here on loan, things didn't really go as well as I had hoped for."

Rising stars Teddy Bishop and Matt Clarke have also been given contract extensions after recently breaking into the first team, while Town are monitoring Christophe Berra's knee injury after he was forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad.

Millwall boss Ian Holloway can add Angel Martinez to his squad after snapping up the former Blackpool midfielder on a free transfer last week.

Holloway has also been boosted by the return to fitness of ex-Ipswich trainee Ed Upson, who has yet to figure this season due to a hamstring injury but played alongside Martinez for the club's under-21s in midweek.

Midfielder Nicky Bailey remains sidelined by a calf problem although he is nearing a return to full training, as is young defender Sid Nelson following a foot injury.

Carlos Edwards will start at right-back against the club where he spent almost five years before signing for Millwall last March.
