Carlisle vs AFC Wimbledon preview - Selection poser for Thirlwell

Posted Friday, September 05, 2014 by PA

Carlisle caretaker manager Paul Thirlwell must decide whether to recall himself to the starting line-up as the club chase their first league win of the season against AFC Wimbledon.

Thirlwell was one of three changes made by the midfielder and fellow caretaker Tony Caig to the side that secured their first success of the campaign in midweek at Accrington in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Gary Dicker is hoping to retain his place in midfield, while winger David Amoo and Jack Marriott, on loan from Ipswich, could return in place of Josh Gillies and Kyle Dempsey.

Defenders Sean O'Hanlon (ankle) and Troy Archibald-Henville (shin), plus winger Danny Kearns (thigh) and Matty Robson (knee) are still doubtful, while Courtney Meppen-Walter is out for the long term following knee surgery.

AFC Wimbledon will be without Harry Pell through suspension after the midfielder was sent off in the first half of their win over Southend in midweek.

But winger George Francomb (toe) and defender Jack Smith (knee) are close to returning from injury lay-offs and will be assessed.

Strike duo Matt Tubbs and Adebayo Akinfenwa were rested from the starting line-up on Tuesday and are set to be restored in attack while Dannie Bulman, Alan Bennett and Sammy Moore will also be hoping for recalls.

Defender Andy Frampton remains sidelined as he recovers from a broken ankle.
