DAVE: The Spaniard penned a new deal at Stamford Bridge
Cesar Azpilicueta last night pledged the best years of his career to Chelsea.
The Spain defender signed a bumper new five-year contract and doubled his wages to around £70,000-a-week.
Azpilicueta, 25, was signed as a right back for a bargain £7m from Marseille back in the summer of 2012.
But he filled in so well as a makeshift left back last season that Ashley Cole was eventually forced out of the club.
Chelsea then signed left back Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid this summer in a £20m deal as their No 1 in the position.
But Azpilicueta, who was voted players' player of the year last season, has started every game this season ahead of the Brazil defender.
A fan favourite who is known as 'Dave' by Blues supporters, Azpilicueta has so far made 95 appearances for the club.
His only goal for Chelsea came in last season's Capital One Cup victory over Arsenal at the Emirates.
Azpilicueta was part of the meanest defence in the Premier League last season, conceding just 27 times in 38 games.
He also represented Spain at the World Cup and is currently with his national team preparing for matches against France and Macedonia.
