La Liga clubs shell out €535 million

Clubs in the Spanish league have spent just over €35 million on signings during the summer transfer window - just over half of what Premier League sides splashed out, with a record-breaking total of €1,052 million -, according to figures released by Deloitte.

Next in line behind the Premiership and La Liga is Italy's Serie A, which spent €327.8 million, followed by the Bundesliga with €315.2 million and the French Ligue 1 on 'just' €126 million, the consulting firm reports.

As occurred in previous years, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid were the two clubs which spent the most on reinforcing their ranks for the upcoming season, bringing in Luis Suárez (€81 million), James Rodríguez (€80 million) and Toni Kroos (€25 million).

The reigning La Liga champions, Atlético de Madrid, signed Mario Mandzukic from Bayern and the Frenchman Antoine Griezmann - a key part of Real Sociedad's resurgence.

Manchester United were the biggest spenders in the Premiership (€189 million). In addition to securing the season-long loan of Radamel Falcao, the Red Devil's bumper summer signing was Ángel di María from Real Madrid for €75 million.

Liverpool were the second biggest spenders, with a total outlay of €147.2 million, which included the addition of Mario Balotelli. They were followed by Chelsea, who snapped up Cesc Fábregas, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa and brought Courtois back in from Atlético.
