ANGRY Sheryl Gascoigne is at war with Gazza over his booze addiction, pals revealed last night.

The footballer’s ex-wife, 48, is furious he has failed to stay off alcohol after pals paid for him to undergo rehab in the US last year.

A close pal yesterday told the Daily Star Sunday Sheryl has lost all sympathy for the troubled star and recently blasted: "The rehab was all paid for and he threw it back in our faces.”

There were fresh fears for Gazza last week after he suffered his latest booze meltdown and was taken to hospital.

Onlookers called 999 after seeing him slumped against a wall after buying gin and beer near his home in Sandbanks, Dorset.

Just 18 months ago pals including Chris Evans, 48, and Gary Lineker, 53, stepped in to help him get emergency treatment for his addiction.

They donated around £100,000 for him to stay at a rehab clinic in Arizona in a bid to save his life.

During his stay he was rushed to intensive care and went into a three-day coma. But former England star Gazza, 47, was back on the booze within weeks of leaving the clinic.

Yesterday he was spotted lighting a cigarette in the grounds of Poole General Hospital in Dorset.

A source close to Sheryl said: “Sheryl is absolutely furious that he didn’t try harder to keep his drinking under control.

"His friends went all out to save him and she’s so angry he threw it back at them so he could go back on the booze.”

Just four months after his stay in Arizona Gazza was arrested following a bust-up with Sheryl at a railway station.

And in January this year we revealed Gazza was back in rehab at a clinic in Southampton where stays cost around £6,000 a month.

He now faces being booted out of his luxury home after noise complaints from neighbours – revealed by the Daily Star Sunday last week.

Sheryl has told friends she feels being close to Gazza is a “constant battle” and fears he will never beat his demons.

Our source added: “Sheryl is the only person who has really stood by Gazza through everything.

"To this day she still looks after him. But secretly she’s fed-up.

"She feels like she makes all the effort and he can’t be bothered. She feels an obligation to look after him.”

Pals say Gazza still loves her, 15 years after they were divorced.

Our source said: “Sheryl has said he is always really nosy about what she’s up to and where she’s going. He tries to find things out through the kids.”
