Liverpool plan second striker swoop and Madrid star to reject Man United move

Our man with his ear to the ground, Jamie Sanderson, runs the rule over the latest transfer gossip...

Samuel Eto'o – Free to Liverpool

Liverpool remain keen on Eto'o despite the imminent arrival of Mario Balotelli. They held more talks with him this week and, after getting over fears about his fitness, a deal is now close to being done. All parties are hopeful. (Chances of it happening: 9/10)

Federico Fazio – Sevilla to Tottenham

Fazio is Tottenham's latest centre-back target and talks were held this week over a deal. Sevilla want to keep him, but Spurs have met his £8million buy-out clause and are now pushing to close the deal quickly. Watch this space. (7/10)

Mattia Destro – Roma to Chelsea

Chelsea want Italy striker Destro to bolster their attack, but it's complicated. They need to offload two foreign players to get him, and Roma have already snubbed a swap deal. This is complex, but the Blues remain keen and are trying to find a solution. (5/10)

Adrien Rabiot – PSG to Arsenal

Rabiot has rejected a new contract at PSG and Arsenal are desperate to land him. He has accepted the Gunners' contract offer, but the two sides are far apart in their valuation. Arsenal want to pay £5million, PSG want £15million. A deal is some way off at present. (3/10)

Xabi Alonso – Real Madrid to Manchester United

Alonso is unhappy with the way he's been treated at Madrid and has asked his agent to look at transfer options. United have been linked, but there is no serious interest and it's all but certain he'd reject the Old Trafford club anyway. No deal. (0/10)
