The Arsenal captain was hurt in the first leg of Arsenal's Champions League playoff.

Arsenal have been dealt an early injury scare to captain Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard was subbed off in the first leg of the Gunners' UEFA Champions League qualifier on Tuesday with an apparent ankle injury.

Arteta had to limp off of the field in the 50th minute, and he did so very slowly. It wasn't a catastrophic injury, as he was able to put some weight on the injured leg, but he certainly put as little weight on it as possible. Mathieu Flamini replaced him.

Arsenal have not released any information on the nature of Arteta's injury and it is possible that it is not very serious. It was unclear just how badly injured he was, just that he was in obvious pain and did not even attempt to continue on.

Arteta has generally been a fit player, managing at least 29 matches in each of the last four Premier League seasons and 43 matches in all competitions in each of the last two campaigns.
