Shrewsbury had few problems notching a third successive home win as they cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over early-season strugglers Accrington.

The visitors might have taken a shock early lead when Will Hatfield fired wide, but they were quickly behind when goalkeeper Luke Simpson's attempted clearance struck Shrews striker Andy Mangan and rebounded in.

It set the tone for Micky Mellon's side to totally dominate but they had to wait until the 42nd minute to double their advantage.

Simpson was sent off for dragging down Mangan and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro converted the first penalty awarded to Shrewsbury for 16 months.

The home side moved further ahead on the stroke of half-time when defender Connor Goldson had time to control Liam Lawrence's corner and smash home from eight yards.

Shrewsbury controlled the second half and substitute keeper Jay Lynch, making his Football League debut, saved well from Nathaniel Knight-Percival and Ashley Vincent.

But he was powerless to prevent the hosts adding a fourth in the 65th minute when Akpa-Akpro's excellent cross from the left was headed home by Mangan, his second goal of the night against one of his former clubs.
