Thomas Vermaelen posts lengthy Instagram message to Arsenal fans

Just moments after Arsene Wenger praised Thomas Vermaelen for his “human qualities” in the post-Manchester City win press conference, the Belgian defender posted a message for Arsenal fans on Instagram.

After Arsenal’s 3-0 Community Shield win, Arsene Wenger admitted: “I told Vermaelen at end of last season that he could leave as he didn’t play. His human qualities are exceptional. I wish him well.”

And, on Sunday evening, having been presented as a Barcelona player earlier in the day, Vermaelen posted a lengthy message on Instagram, with the picture above.

The Vermaelen message was as follows: “After 5 years at Arsenal – and the last 2 years a proud captain too – it’s time for me to move on. The club, the team, the fans, the manager, the staff and other employees, you all made me feel at home at both the training ground and the Emirates Stadium. It was a wonderful time and I feel blessed I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of such a great club. There have been so many wonderful games and experiences, with lifting the FA Cup as an absolute highlight. I would like to thank you all for your support, it was a huge honour to be a Gunner!”
