GET READY LOUIS: Rodgers warns Van Gaal it isn't easy in England

Manchester United boss Van Gaal has won titles in Holland, Spain and Germany in a glittering managerial career.

But Liverpool boss Rodgers reckons his new rival won't know what's hit him when the new season gets underway next week.

Rodgers said: "I think what he'll find is the competition in this league will be different to any other league that he's worked in.

"In a lot of the other leagues, there are one or two teams and those are the teams that are expected to win.

"This is a league where the top team plays the bottom team and on any given day you can lose. You don't get that a lot in the other leagues.

"I think the competition will probably take him by surprise, and that's from foreign managers I have spoken to over the years.

"I've worked closely with foreign players who have come in, and that real physical competitive nature will be different to anywhere else he's worked before.

"I'm obviously an admirer of his work and his career. He's a very experienced manager and a very good manager who has worked at some big clubs.

"When you come through as a coach you look at the guys who have a vision and a philosophy, and he was obviously one of those guys."Van Gaal has already got one up on Rodgers by steering United to victory over Liverpool in the International Champions Cup in Miami to claim his first piece of silverware. The Premier League's different warns Reds boss Brendan Rodgers to Man Utd's Louis van Gaal

But Rodgers claims the friendly result means nothing for the season ahead.

He added: "I thought it was a really good game, a good workout for both teams at the end of pre-season.

"We were well worth the lead and had a couple of other chances. And I thought we could have had another penalty.

"United were in a difficult moment but we conceded a disappointing goal and then quickly another which saw the game stretched out a bit.

"But overall I am delighted with the whole US tour, we have worked very hard and we leave with plenty of positives. We are looking forward to the new season."

Rodgers also praised Raheem Sterling's pre-season showings and said: "I thought he was outstanding, a real threat.

"The intensity in his game, how he presses the ball, and technically he's very aware for a young player.

"He's only 19 years of age but getting better all the time. He is so exciting to watch."

One player not in Rodgers’ plans is goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who will sign for Bayern Munich in a £4m deal subject to passing a medical.
