Gareth Bale is currently knuckling down at Real Madrid's training camp and is looking to hit the ground running in the coming campaign, having been hindered last time round by a lack of action and the culture shock: "It was a lot more difficult last year, not having a pre-season and not being able to prepare for the season right", he stated, adding that he is "getting fitter every day".
"It's very difficult when you first come over, but they are such a great bunch of boys in the changing room here and they made me feel welcome. A lot of them speak English, which helped me. I took a bit of time to settle in but I feel very comfortable now", he noted.
Bale is relishing the prospect of tasting more European glory, starting off in his native Wales: "To be involved in six trophies in a season is obviously great. We want to be going into every single one and trying to win them and obviously there's a special touch on it for the [UEFA] Super Cup being in my hometown in Cardiff, which I'm looking forward to. Hopefully we can do the job and get the trophy".
Finally, the Welshman isn't fazed by the pressure of trying to defend the Champions League trophy: "It's exciting to start the season as the best team in Europe. I don't know if that will mean more pressure this season but we certainly have more hunger than ever. We want to retain our Champions League".
