RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) -- FIFA has appointed Cuneyt Cakir of Turkey to referee host nation Brazil's match against Mexico in Fortaleza on Tuesday.
Brazil's opening match in Group A, a 3-1 win over Croatia, saw the biggest refereeing controversy of the tournament.
Forward Fred got a penalty from Japanese referee Yuichi Nishimura after slight contact from Croatia defender Dejan Lovren. Neymar scored from the spot for a decisive 2-1 lead.
FIFA also says Mexican referee Marco Rodriguez will begin his third World Cup by handling Belgium vs. Algeria on Tuesday. The Group H opener is in Belo Horizonte.
Nestor Pitana of Argentina will referee the other Group H match, Russia vs. South Korea in Cuiaba.
