ON THE MOVE: Vela is set to return to Arsenal despite saying he wants to stay in Spain

Arsenal set to IGNORE Carlos Vela's wishes and seal £3.5m transferThe Gunners want to activate a buy-back clause they inserted into the transfer of Vela to Real Sociedad in 2012.

However, Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay revealed yesterday that the player wants to stay in Spain.

He said: "We are fortunate that the player is keen to stay in San Sebastian with us and that’s an important factor for Real Sociedad."

Despite the wishes of the player, Arsenal look set to proceed with the transfer.

Reports this morning suggest Arsene Wenger will conclude a £3.5m deal in the coming weeks, with the World Cup not causing a delay as the player is not in Mexico's 23-man squad.

Talks between the two clubs are said to be at an advanced stage, with Arsenal hoping to fend off interest from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

Vela's form has flourished since he joined Real Sociedad from the Gunners in 2012, and last season he helped Real qualify for the Champions League.

He moved to the San Sebastian-based club in the summer of 2011 on a season-long loan before making the move permanent 12 months later.

In all he has scored 31 goals in 78 appearances for the club.
