The lifelong fan has agreed to takeover the side after they were relegated to League One in May.

He and former chairman John Ryan tabled the multi-million pound bid on Thursday where a meeting between representatives took place.

The 22-year-old is set to become co-chairman of the club, even though Ryan will effectively be running proceedings.

It was believed the negotiations would be finalised today but are now expected to be confirmed on Wednesday.

Ryan dramatically resigned as chairman of the club last November after a split between the board.

And he will now have a another chance be a majority shareholder in the club.

The global pop star will take over the side after playing for the team in February.

Louis came on as a sub against Rotherham United, with over 4,000 people coming to watch.

As it stands, Louis is about to finish One Direction's tour of the UK with three live gigs at Wembley Stadium - but still has a number of commitments in the UK.

But the singer hit headlines last week when footage showed he and bandmate Zayn Malik smoking what looks like a joint on their way to a gig in Peru.

In the footage, Louis announced: "So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days... What do you think Zayn? About that kind of content?"

Then as a car drives past he tells the camera: "That’s the police. That’s the po po... Nice. I’m trying to blow it into the camera. Smokescreen baby!"

After the video was leaked, a spokesperson for One Direction said: "The matter is now in the hands of our lawyers."
