City grasping on to Aguero

Barcelona would absolutely love to sign Sergio Agüero this summer. Leo Messi wants to play alongside him and the 'Azulgrana' board would love nothing more too. Not just because it would bring a smile to Messi's face, but because of the Argentine's undoubted qualities as a player.

This is nothing new. Barcelona been contemplating the move for two years now, and if they didn't act on it before it's because they thought they already had that sort of player in their ranks.

Barcelona have started making moves now though. They aren't doing it directly, but through intermediaries, and 'Kun' himself isn't particularly opposed to the move. Manchester City, meanwhile, aren't intending to let the player slip through their fingers. The question is whether they'll be able to resist Barcelona's barrage of advances for the full length of the summer, because the transfer window has only just opened.

Ferrán Soriano and Txiki Begiristain have spoken with the player, aware that Barcelona and Leo are pressuring him to make the move. They've told him that he's the most important piece of City's project and that they plan to build the team around him as their star player. If Manchester City managed to lift the Champions League, then he'd be the player to gain worldwide praise, which could mean a Ballon d'Or.
