David de Gea is convinced that Vicente del Bosque shouldn't rule injury-hit striker Diego Costa out of his World Cup squad just yet: "Of course we should wait for Costa, he's a top player. I played alongside him for several years at Atleti and he's really blossomed this year. We have to wait and see how he progresses and hopefully he'll be 100%".

The goalie believes Spain's stars are as hungry as ever: "There are players who have won everything at club and international level, but you never lose that fire in the belly. From what I've seen they're chomping at the bit".

"We don't know who's going to play against Bolivia, but we have to be ready in case we get the nod", the Manchester United man noted, adding: "I'm raring to make my debut. There's a lot of competition in goal, but I'm enjoying myself and pushing myself to the max in training".

Asked about possible nerves in the camp, he replied: "There's a lot of speculation about who will go to Brazil and who won't. A few players are carrying fitness issues and we just have to wait for the gaffer to make his decision: it's as simple as that".

De Gea believes the future is bright for 'La Roja': "It's true that there's very good work being done in the youth teams. We try to emulate the senior squad and youth players are being given the chance to make the step up when [senior] players are unavailable".

"I don't know much about Brazil, but at the end of the day we're going there to play football; we don't really venture into the outside world. It's true that the situation there is delicate in some aspects, but we try to block all of that out", the 23-year-old added.

The United goalkeeper also admitted to La Sexta's 'Jugones' programme that he's attempting to work his magic on Cesc Fàbregas, stating: "I'm trying to get him to come".
