MANUEL PELLEGRINI has taken a swipe at BOTH his title rivals on the eve of Manchester City’s showdown with Liverpool.

PORKY PIES: Pellegrini says Rodgers and Mourinho are lying over their side's title chances

The wise old Etihad manager is usually the soul of discretion in the build-up to big games.

But the gloves came off as he accused Kop boss Brendan Rodgers and Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho of telling porkies about the title pressure.

And in a double whammy for the Special One, he declared it would be “very disappointing for football” if low-scorers Chelsea nicked it.

Mourinho’s men have managed just 65 goals in 33 games and Pelle rapped: “Big teams must play as big teams.”

Leaders Liverpool have whacked in 90 while City, who have played two games less, have 84.

The Prem has been won by the highest-scoring team every season bar three - and TWO of those titles went to Mourinho’s Chelsea sides.

Pellegrini warned: “It would be very disappointing - for football, for the fans, for everyone.

"I think that the most attractive football, the more goals you can score, should be rewarded.

Mourinho reckons Chelsea are “little horse” outsiders and Rodgers has insisted Anfield is also a pressure-free zone – but old hand Pellegrini is having none of that.

BAD FOR FOOTBALL: Pellegrini says it would a defeat for attacking football if Mourinho's Chelsea won the league

He said: “I don’t think it’s true. Maybe they are covering themselves for if they don’t win the title. I don’t know what their players think – but I’m sure if I said to my players we don’t have any pressure to win, I don’t think that would work.

"Not when they are one point or two points off the top of the table – when they are ten points away, maybe."

Suarez has starred in Liverpool’s assault on the title.

Pel said: “I think a lot of Suarez – he is a great player, not only a striker. He scores goals but he also plays a lot for the team.

Sergio has had a difficult season with injuries but I am absolutely sure that any team who played with Sergio would be improved.”

Victory at Anfield followed by a midweek win over bogey team Sunderland would put City in the driving seat to grab a second Premier League trophy.

He said: “If we win both we have made a huge statement – but it won’t be finished.”
