TIM SHERWOOD has taken a swipe at Tottenham's transfer policy after admitting big money flops Erik Lamela and Etienne Capoue won't kick a ball again this season.

HAD ENOUGH: Tim Sherwood has not been impressed by Erik Lamela or Etienne Capoue

Sherwood reckons Everton's risk-free approach to buying players is the model to follow after seeing Spurs get little return from their scattergun £107m summer spree.

Winger Lamela, a £30m club record signing, suffered one final blow to finish off his nightmare first year at Spurs when he was ruled out for the rest of the season with a back injury that could also prevent him going to the World Cup with Argentina.

And out-of-favour midfielder Capoue's season is also over due to an ankle injury.

Spurs bought seven players last summer under former boss Andre Villas-Boas - all foreign and without a minute of previous Premier League experience between them.

Only two, Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen, have come anywhere near justifying Spurs's decision to buy them.

Current boss Sherwood said: "You can buy someone who's never played in the Premier League and he comes over and is a revelation but it's more of a risk doing that.

"Premier League experience for me would be key. If you want to look at any team it would have to be Everton and what they did in the transfer market was second to none.

"On deadline day they looked like an average side but all of a sudden they make three signings and it has turned them into what they are now.

"They have done very cute business.

LOPS: Etienne Capoue and Erik Lamela have failed to impress at White Hart Lane this season

"They were certainly the players that Martinez wanted. Gareth Barry has over 530 Premier League games which is crucial for any club. They are done! Tim Sherwood won't play Tottenham flops Erik Lamela & Etienne Capoue again

"Lukaku was the best young players last season and had that loan spell at West Brom which was brilliant for him.

"Deulofeu, who everyone knows was in the development phase of football can be anything he possibly wants to be and he is showing that now.

"And the James McCarthy acquisition. They have certainly done brilliant in the transfer market."

Lamela and Capoue's woes highlight how Spurs didn't do quite so well.

Sherwood, who takes Spurs to West Brom today, said: "Lamela is about and he is making progress.

"He had some treatment from (his old club) Roma's physios and our guys and been pretty much everywhere to try and get it sorted.

"He is probably not going to play this season. He has been out a very long time and is going to need a pre-season before he can play.

"I am not sure how far Capoue is away but it is very doubtful whether he will play between now and the end of the season."

Sherwood was a little more hopeful on England full-back Kyle Walker who has been out for a month with a groin injury.

He added: "He's desperate to go to Brazil and play in the World Cup and I'm confident we're going to see him out there."
