Mass farewell for Luis Aragones

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, and the club's Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueno, also went to pay their respects.

Luis Aragones received a tremendous send-off on Sunday from friends and colleagues from the world of football at the La Paz cemetery, in the Madrid area of Tres Cantos. The first to arrive at the funeral home to bid farewell to 'El Sabio de Hortaleza' was former Montenegrin player Pedja Mijatovic, who worked with Aragones at Valencia in the 1995-96 season.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, and the club's Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueno, also went to pay their respects. Both men were also the first to leave at the end of the ceremony held in honour of the former Madrid-born coach at around 14:20. The club presidents of Atletico (Enrique Cerezo), Valencia (Amadeo Salvo), Sevilla (Jose Castro) and Getafe (Angel Torres), along with Lorenzo Sanz, Real president between 1995 and 2000, also went to Tres Cantos to say goodbye to Luis Aragones.

Former teammates from Aragones's time as a player and manager of Atletico de Madrid, such as Adelardo Rodriguez, Miguel Reina and Miguel 'Pechuga' San Roman, and people from the generation of Pedro de Felipe and Amancio Amaro were also present. The last to arrive at the ceremony, a few minutes before it started at 14:00, were Xavi Hernandez, Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol, the four Barcelona players who won the 2008 European Championship under Luis Aragones.
