Marco Fabian: I have nothing to prove to anyone

Marco Fabian is hoping his loan move to Cruz Azul from Chivas will be the spark that leads to a World Cup call-up this summer.

“I’m not going to give up on going to Brazil,” the forward said in a press conference on Monday. “This is my last opportunity to go and I need to take advantage during these six months before the World Cup.”

Fabian, 24, impressed before and during Mexico’s run to gold at the London 2012 Olympics, but has since been unable to find the same kind of form in a Chivas side that has struggled.

The player added that he “anxious” to debut for Cruz Azul in the Liga MX against Monterrey on Saturday, but isn’t looking to prove anything to anybody, following criticism about his performances and lifestyle off the pitch in Guadalajara.

“I don’t need to shut anybody up,” stated Fabian. “I’m coming here to contribute and fulfill my dream of becoming champion with Cruz Azul.”

Fabian indicated he is in good shape and believes being at what has been one of the most consistent clubs in Mexico in recent years will help his game.

“Cruz Azul can help me make next year better,” he said. “Here you find players that make the difference, without wanting to minimize Chivas.”
