Ronaldo closes in on new record

Cristiano Ronaldo does not just set records when he plays for Real Madrid. He is currently on his way to becoming the most important player in the history of Portuguese football, both in terms of the number of caps which he has won and the number of goals which he has scored. He is getting extremely close and will have another chance to continue making history on Tuesday in the second leg of the playoffs against Sweden.
Ronaldo is Portugal's greatest hope to make good on the 1-0 win in the first leg. As it stands, he is just three goals shy of the 47 goals which Pedro Pauleta scored for his country over the course of his career. CR7 has netted 44, long since surpassing the legendary Eusebio.
Two games behind Couto
The goalscoring record is not the only one which Ronaldo is chasing with Portugal. The Madrid player is just two games short of the 110 international caps of defender Fernando Couto, second-placed in the all-time rankings behind Luis Figo with 127. Ronaldo looks ready and willing to carry the team on his back once again.
