Almeria vs Valladolid preview - Rodriguez calling for momentum

Almeria coach Francisco Javier Rodriguez has urged his side to build on their victory over Valencia, their first win of the season, by taking all three points when they host Valladolid.

A deflected goal by Aleix Vidal at the Mestalla gave the Andalusian side a 2-1 win after they fell behind in the first half.

They remain bottom of the Primera Division but Rodriguez believes another victory would further raise his side's confidence.

"It would have huge significance for us and we would continue to grow in confidence and self-esteem, as has happened after beating Valencia on Wednesday," he told reporters.

"We needed that win but logically we want to keep winning."

Almeria face a Valladolid side who will also be buoyed after their midweek result, hauling back a two-goal deficit to draw with Real Sociedad.

However, the point tasted less sweet for Juan Ignacio Martinez's side because Patrick Ebert missed a last-minute penalty which would have won the game.

"We have to improve what we didn't do well last Wednesday," Martinez told a press conference.

"If you concede two goals every game it's almost impossible to win. We cannot commit so many errors. These are errors that we have been making systematically, which we need to correct. If we don't have defensive security, we will drop many points."

The coach also expressed caution about facing Almeria three days after they got their first win.

"Now they will think they can kick on. They will be anxious to capitalise on their good feelings in front of their own fans."

Rodriguez reciprocated his counterparts comments by praising Valladolid:

"It's going to be very difficult because we are up against a team that plays very nice football, who are well coached and who have a lot of quality and power in attack."

But he added: "We are working to get the best out of our own team, while also working on countering the opponents' virtues."

Valladolid will be without striker Manucho, midfielder Oscar Gonzalez and defender Heinz Barmettler, but Rodriguez has a fully-fit squad.
