Moyes endured a difficult summer in the transfer market and only made one significant addition in £27.5m man Marouane Fellaini on deadline day.
Kiessling, who was the Bundesliga top goalscorer last season netting 25 times, is a player that the United boss confirmed his admiration for.
"In all the years I was at Everton, I followed him all the time," Moyes told Bild.

"But the money was sadly lacking.
"I have great respect for him. He is a great player who is strong with his head and his feet."
The 29-year-old is expected to start for Sami Hyypiä's side at Old Trafford in their opening Champions League match.
The game will be the first time Moyes has taken charge of team in the group stages of Europe's elite competition, having been knocked out in the third round qualifier for Everton against Villarreal in 2005.
