The tiff between Mustafa Özil and Real Madrid rages on. Today, Thursday, Mesut Özil's father and agent hit out with some surprising declarations in which he accused Florentino Pérez of not being a "man of honour". The Madrid club immediately responded, saying the comments "do not reflect the truth and are completely out of order".
The first to light the fuse was Mesut Özil's father and agent, Mustafa Özil. In quotes published by the newspaper 'Bild', he said that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez "is not a man of honour" and accused him of trying to pass off the responsibility for the sale of the German player to Arsenal.
"The fact that someone earns a lot of money does not automatically make them a man of honour, and Florentino Pérez is not a man of honour," said Özil senior in statements to the German newspaper.
"Now he wants to turn Mesut into a scapegoat and paint me as an ambitious father who was only looking for a windfall. He is playing dirty, and we will defend ourselves in court," he went on to say.
Mustafa Özil holds Pérez responsible for the rumours about his son's private life which appeared in the Spanish media and branded them lies. "If Mesut led the life they're saying he did, I wonder why he always played for the team. They want to destroy Mesut's image now because the fans and some teammates are angry about his sale," said the player's father.
