Cesc: I want to stay at Barca - United chief Moyes losing fight for Fabregas
SLIPPING AWAY ... Man United target Cesc Fabregas could be staying in Spain

DAVID MOYES is losing his fight to lure Cesc Fabregas to Old Trafford.

The Spain midfield star has told friends he wants to stay and fight for his place at Barcelona.

Manchester United have had two offers rejected and are mulling over making a club-record £35million bid.

Fabregas, 26, remains top of Moyes’ summer hitlist but a Barca insider confirmed last night: “Cesc is very flattered by United’s interest and recognises what a great opportunity they offer.

“But it’s only two years since he left Arsenal and he doesn’t want to turn his back on Barcelona so soon.

“It has been a battle trying to dislodge Xavi and Iniesta, or slot in successfully beside them, but he has had his fair share of games and wants even more.”

And new Barca manager Tata Martino, who took over after Tito Vilanova stepped down due to illness, insisted his man was going nowhere.

He said: “Man United want Cesc? If the club rejected two offers, I will reject it a third time. Cesc will be here.”

Fabregas reported back for pre-season training yesterday and underwent a pre-season medical.

He has been on holiday since playing for Spain in the Confederations Cup.

United could now turn their attention to Everton’s Marouane Fellaini.

The Premier League champions are considering a move to trigger a £22m release clause.

Fellaini, seen dining at Rio Ferdinand’s Rosso restaurant in Manchester over the weekend, will see his release clause increase on Thursday August 1, so United must act quickly if keep the price down.
