Target: Liverpool want Vasco defender Dede
Liverpool have expressed an interest in Vasco da Gama defender Dede and are ready to do battle with AC Milan to sign him, according to the player’s agent.
The Reds are on the lookout for a new centre-back in the summer, with Jamie Carragher announcing his retirement from the game while back up Sebastian Coates has expressed a desire to return to Argentina after failing to settle on Merseyside.
Ashley Williams, Toby Alderweireld and Mamadou Sakho have all been rumoured to be among Brendan Rodgers’ options, but Brazil international Dede has now emerged as the top target, with his agent confirming the Reds’ interest.
‘There is interest from Liverpool,’ said Giuliano Aranda. ‘But there have been no talks between me and that club.’
Retirement: Liverpool want cover with Carragher set to quit the game
Vasco have put Brazil international Dede up for sale in a bid to raise cash, and are believed to have told Liverpool it would take around £15million to do business.
But according to Aranda, AC Milan are currently leading the chase.
‘Vasco are awaiting Milan’s offer. I believe there has been contact between the clubs and the Rossoneri’s interest in Dede is concrete, but at the moment they have not spoken to me directly,’ he said.
‘Milan just need to reach an agreement with Vasco before negotiating with us.’
Dede has a contract with Vasco until 2015.
