Uruguayan Edinson Cavani has urged international team-mate Luis Suarez to leave Liverpool for a club capable of offering Champions League football.

Suarez's future with Liverpool has recently come under intense speculation, with the 26-year-old previously hinting at a possible move away from the Reds during the summer in order to fulfil his ambitions of playing Champions League football.

Several elite clubs, including the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are reportedly keen to sign Suarez, but Liverpool are expectedly unwilling to sell one of their top stars as they continue to manoeuvre their return to the summit of English football.

But Cavani, who has formed a deadly partnership in attack with Suarez for Uruguay, has advised the former Ajax player to leave Liverpool in order to play at the very highest level.

"The fact is that Luis is one of the top strikers in the world and he wants to be playing Champions League football," Cavani told The Sun.

"Of course, Liverpool are not going to make it this season.

"But if they don't make it next season then they will have a problem.

"Luis would love to play in the Champions League with Liverpool.

"But if he can't then a player of his quality needs to play for a club where he can."

However, Cavani acknowledged it Suarez's affection for Liverpool would make it very hard for him to leave the club.

"I know it meant a lot when Liverpool stood by him through some tough times and he has a lot of love for the club and their fans," Cavani added.

"When I speak with Luis he speaks with admiration about Liverpool and the Premier League.

"He even encourages me to play in England."

Both Cavani and Suarez will likely feature for Uruguay when they take on Chile in their next World Cup Qualifying fixture.
