Former Manchester City player Stefan Savic has urged Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic to move to the Premier League champions.

The 23-year old striker is set to lead the line for Montenegro alongside AS Roma's Mirko Vucinic when the team take on England for their World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

A goal against Roy Hodgson's men will further establish Jovetic's credentials to make the step up to a a bigger European club and Savic told the Daily Mail that he would encourage his compatriot to choose Manchester City should an opportunity arise in the summer.

"Jovetic can play for one of the top clubs. I hope he does because he is one of my closest friends, I would recommend City to him," Savic shared.

"I think City's a rising team, one of the best clubs in Europe. They will win trophies and be in the Champions League every year."

The central defender only lasted a year at the Etihad Stadium after moving from FK Partizan. However, Savic believed his short stay at City should not discourage Jovetic from joining the club.

"It was hard for me there because I came straight from the Serbian League. I won a league title but after a season, I knew I had to play regularly to improve as a player. So I left - it was my decision," he revealed.

"It is different for Stevan. He has five years experience, he could play straight away with Sergio Aguero or Carlos Tevez. He is a second striker, similar to Rooney because he's good with the ball, gifted technically and intelligent. Off the pitch, he is a quiet guy but on it, he fights. I don't need to advise him how to score against my friend Joe Hart."
