ON TARGET ... Tottenham goalscorer Emmanuel Adebayor with Scott Parker
ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS called on UEFA to get tough after Emmanuel Adebayor was racially abused by Inter fans.
Adebayor’s away goal sent Tottenham into the Europa League quarter-finals.
But he endured monkey chants from Inter fans who also waved an inflatable banana at him. Spurs boss AVB said: “It was easy to hear the chanting, so I’m sure UEFA will act.
“It didn’t mar the game but it should have been avoided. It’s a very sensitive situation.”
Inter have twice been fined this season after their fans aimed racist abuse at AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli on two occasions.
Goals from Antonio Cassano and Rodrigo Palacio plus an own goal from William Gallas wiped out Inter’s first-leg deficit in normal time.
But Adebayor’s 96th-minute effort was enough to see Spurs through despite Ricardo Alvarez adding a late fourth for Inter.
AVB added: “I didn’t underestimate Inter and I don’t think my players did.
“We don’t have the same European history as Inter but this will serve as a good lesson for us.”
