Harry Redknapp: Bobby Zamora key to our survival bid
HARRY REDKNAPP admits Bobby Zamora holds the key to QPR’s survival hopes.

But the striker will almost certainly need surgery in the summer and then be out for EIGHT months.

QPR are deep in the mire — seven points adrift of safety with just 12 games to play.

And Zamora, 32, is only able to play 45 minutes of matches due to a long-standing hip injury.

He came on at half-time at the Liberty and had an immediate impact with a goal to make it 2-1.

Boss Redknapp said: “He is so vital to a lot of things we do. When he plays he’s different.

“He can move, hold the ball up, someone we can play up to. Without him we don’t have someone who can lead the line.

“The problem with Bobby is he can only play half a match.

“If we start him, we have to stop him at half-time. If we played him straight through he could probably manage 70 minutes. But stopping at half-time he seizes up then he can’t move. He can’t walk now after today’s game.

“He probably needs an operation but that will rule him out for eight months.”

And with the task he now faces, Redknapp admits his West Londoners need to emulate Portsmouth, who he kept up in 2006.

He said: “We got 20 points from the last 10 games — and that is something we might need this time too “It’s going to be hard but it’s not impossible.”

New £8million striker Loic Remy will boost QPR by returning for the home game against Manchester United on February 23. But in the meantime QPR are off to Dubai for a week.

Redknapp said: “Our training ground is not the best. When it rains, it floods. When it snows we can’t get on it.

“We have no undersoil heating and no gymnasium. So we can at least train properly for a few days.”

Meanwhile, QPR’s Brazil keeper Julio Cesar apologised to his team-mates for his performance against Swansea.

He was carrying a groin injury but insisted on playing at the Liberty, Cesar struggled throughout but his boss Redknapp said: “He doesn’t need to apologise because he’s been fantastic.

“Without him we would not have got the results we got in the last five games.

“But he has apologised to his team-mates. He has said, ‘Look lads, I messed up today’. But he is a fantastic professional and a top goalkeeper.”
