U.S. international winger Robbie Rogers was let go from his contract with Leeds United by mutual consent, the League Championship side announced on its official website on Tuesday.

Rogers spent the first half of the season on loan with League One side Stevenage, where he started in three of nine appearances under former Colorado Rapids coach Gary Smith. His loan expired on Tuesday, and Leeds opted to cut him loose rather than seek another loan or integrate him into the team.

Rogers made just four appearances and one start for Leeds in the 2011-2012 season after leaving the Columbus Crew following the 2011 MLS campaign. He suffered a concussion on his debut last February, which derailed the beginning of his time at Elland Road and never caught on. The club also underwent two managerial changes during his time there, with the manager that brought him in, Simon Grayson, giving way to caretaker Neil Redfearn and eventual permanent boss Neil Warnock.

As a result of Rogers leaving MLS on a free transfer, the Crew would maintain his league rights provided that they made a genuine contract offer to him prior to his departure. Under those circumstances, he would be able to bypass the league's allocation order, and a potential return to Columbus would be possible along the same lines of the moves that brought Chris Rolfe back to the Chicago Fire and Ricardo Clark back to the Houston Dynamo last season.

As a free agent, Rogers could also sign with teams overseas during the January transfer window and after it closes.
